Behind that fence, the courtyard lies like a small village. We followed the tiny track along this sun-dappled creek to a flat opening in the trees that had been the landing for a lead mine in the 18th century. It was definitely worth the detour! Completed in 1805 it is 1,000 feet long and 12 feet wide including the tow-path used by horses to pull the boats from A to B in the 1800's.
